How to stay motivated in your own medi-spa business

Many of my clients have asked me to share some advice of how to stay motivated – especially when working in a solo environment. So, I've collected a number to tips that I'ved use to stay motivated with Nubody Equipment Sales Ltd. over the last 11 years.

Stay connected and communicate with others. Get out of your own space and share your work, your passion and your dreams with other people. This is a great way to build a network of like minded individuals who also share your interests in the beauty industry.

Take a break. When running a business, there always seems to be an endless number of tasks to accomplish and when we think of our competitors, of course we strive to do more – but, sometimes the very best thing to do is to treat yourself to an activity that has nothing to do with your business. This is a great way to refresh your batteries and reduce stress.

Super Secret Tip:

I will go to a Spa for a full-day of relaxation to escape the day-to-day running of my business and often I will come out with so many new ideas - for both my own business as well as tips and ideas that I want to share with my customers – that I will be literally bursting at the seams!

Sometimes we get lost in the details of the day-to-day jobs and duties that we have to accomplish. If you begin feeling like you don't seem to be getting ahead, try this. Make a 'Not-to-do' list. Write down everything that is zapping your energy or wasting your time. This may seem counterintuitive, but you can often find ways to free up your energy and spark your motivation again.

This tip will seem like the exact opposite of the above tip, but make a list of the really important big picture things that you wish to accomplish. This will allow you to focus on what is really important to you and your business. You might just find that there are synergies between what you shouldn't be spending so much time doing and what you should be spending your time on.

Take some coaching or training courses to refresh your knowledge and bring pack your passion for your business calling. Lifelong learning always leads to new ideas to improve your practices and business.

Look back at your original goals that you had before you launched your business. This will allow you to see how much you've accomplished and everything you've done – and helps you define what you want to accomplish next.

Write down your dream goals on paper and tape them to the wall where you can see them each day. Then create a plan of how you will achieve your dreams. If you've done your homework and built the foundations of a reliable source of revenue, you will do well even in the roughest of times. That's why - when you have the chance – you need to work at trying new ideas to stimulate new business revenue. This will keep you optimistic and maintain the motivation necessary to keep pushing forward.

Review your customer feedback. When a client lets you know you have truly enhanced their lives, that is often motivation enough to keep going.

Stay physically active. Our minds and bodies work best when they are both stimulated. Exercise refreshes you both physically and mentally, inspires creativity and encourages a positive outlook.

Create a schedule. Set aside time to work as well as for family and leisure. Try not to let them mix or interfere with one another. This prevents burn-out.

Try a new approach. If your routine is causing boredom or loss of motivation, try shaking things up. Alter the way you do things, when you do them, how you do them and even how you think about them. Start to question your standard process and introduce a new way of thinking – this can reduce complacency and revive motivation.

Learn to say no. If you are offering particular treatments or servicing a client type that you don't like, don't do it. After all, you are the boss and it's better for both your business and yourself if you are focusing on the ideal clients and treatments that you love performing. This is actually a great business tip as well – when you stop trying to service everyone, and focus on your perfect customer type, you will find that your sales and marketing messages will also become more focused, appealing directly to those ideal clients – which will increase your business growth.
